Oaklawn cancels weekend live meet

No live racing will be run at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs through Sunday, as the racing surface has been deemed unsuitable. The track will stay open,  however, for all of its indoor fun: simulcast races from other tracks, Instant Racing and video poker. Gates open at 11 a.m. and the Instant Racing/Gaming Room remains open until 1 a.m.

The live meet will resume on Thursday, Feb. 8, the track general manager, Eric Jackson, said today. Horsemen have been unable to work their horses most of this week because of the wintry weather, and more was on the horizon for tonight and tomorrow.

The $50,000 King Cotton Stakes, scheduled to be Saturday's feature, will be run on Friday, Feb. 9. For you exotic wagerers, the carryover pool in the CLASSIX (pick six winners in a row) wager is $60,007 for next Thursdays live race reopening.
