UA football news: No, not another personnel move
Hogwired, the University of Arkansas's sports Internet site for news and such, has a story that the football games between North Texas and Kentucky have been switched next fall, with Kentucky-UA now falling on Sept. 22 and North Texas coming the week after. TV is behind the move; ESPN may want to televise the UA-UK game the evening of Sept. 22, whereas the previous date had too many conflicts.
By the way, North Texas is one of three Sun Belt Conference teams on the Hogs' 2007 football schedule. You probably already know Arkansas State is in the Sun Belt Conference. No, we don't think Arkansas and ASU should play each year, but if the UA is going to pack its nonconference schedule with ASU's conference rivals, then maybe they should. The other non-conference game? Division 1-AA Tennessee-Chattanooga, for Little Rock. Thanks, Frank. Enjoy your retirement package. You did a great job these last few years.

Comments
What is so great about next years schedule? Arkansas looks like it is afraid to play anybody. Nothing but a slap in the face for the fans in Little Rock with Tennessee-Chattanooga. If HDN can win the Sunbelt and T-C he will only have to win two more to go for another bowl defeat.

Why not play Arkansas State?
While Coach Broyles wasn't aware of it the ecology of college athletics changed.
No number of ASU wins over Arkansas would vault ASU into one of the six power conferences.
Absent such membership there is no national broadcast television access. Limited national cable TV access. Limited access to the highest profile and richest paying bowl games.
Unless the Hog Nation is comprised of sheep ready to leap aboard any winning bandwagon in the neighborhood there is not a thing to lose.

ASU beat Troy, the New Orleans Bowl winner and the other 2 SunBelt teams the Hogs will play handilly last year. There is no valid reason the only two division 1-A football programs in this state should not meet on the gridiron. The gov. of West Virginia made it possible for Marshall and the Univ. of West Virgina to play last year. Maybe with end of the Frank Broyles era things will change.

ASU played UCA in baseball this past week. If UCA attains 1-A status in football I'm sure they would play.
