Frank can hurry to Augusta now

We'd hate for Frank Broyles' annual Masters Week to be interrupted by anything like an ongoing search for the right coach who can motivate the fan base as well as the underachieving players. The hire: Creighton's Dana Altman, the former K-State coach who reportedly turned down Tennessee and Georgia in the past to stay in Omaha and garner eight 20-win seasons in the past 10 years. Let's hope the reason Creighton is not loaded with SEC-type talent is because, well, it's Creighton, in Nebraska, and not because of Altman and his staff.

The hire doesn't have the "wow" factor, not in the least. But all the "wow" guys were turning Broyles down right and left, and by damn the Masters practice rounds are starting today. If you're looking for any coincidental history that might be uplifting, though, the last time we hired a basketball coach from Creighton, he made basketball significant on the UA campus. That would be Eddie Sutton.

Delicious to see that the hiring was first delayed then hurried to accommodate FB's golf schedule. In accordance with standard UA practice of bringing tag-along, rumor has it that the Creghton AD is coming along too. Nice to have a boittomless pit of money. And a great concept -- a sucessful (more or less) mid-major coach. The pathetic thing is THAT FB COULDN'T EVEN LAND SOUTHERN ILLINOIS' COACH, HE HAD TO GO TO SECOND TIER AT THE SAME MID-MAJOR LEVEL.
