Billy Bob, increasingly taken seriously as a musician and John Carter Cash goes to Dyess

He even looks the part. All Music Guide editor Stephen Thomas Erlewine interviews Thornton on his new album, "The Beautiful Door," how he was the only kid on the block listening to Frank Zappa growing up (shocker!) and how his mother playing Ray Price, Jim Reeves and Timi Yuro (!!) influenced him.

Also: CNN reports that John Carter Cash, son of Johnny and June, is in Dyess, searching for traces of his dad and picking cotton.

Maybe BBT deserves his props these days. Maybe not.

I still own a record (remember records?) of his ZZ Topp cover band. It was bad.

Somehow, they got a gig at Smitty's (remember Smitty's?) on a Saturday night. The crowd was meager at best before they started, but the horrendous noise they produced from the stage drove the hapless audience from the room as if some aural tear gas burned them like acid. My gawd, they were awful.
