SXSW is a little more than a week away. The big influx of touring acts comes through next week, but we're already getting a taste.
Loads of folks will probably be out at Clear Channel to see Coheed and Cambria, the popular progressive rock (don't call them emo) band from NYC with a helium-voiced lead singer, 7 p.m., $19.99.
At Sticky Fingerz, tuneful Brit-pop/garage rockers the Redwalls come heralded as the next big thing from Chicago. Blue-eyed soul/boogie band Catfish Haven opens. They came through with the Hold Steady last year, 9 p.m., $8 adv./$10 d.o.s.
White Water hosts K Records' the Pine Hill Haints, a Hunstville band who play "Alabama ghost country music," and the Can Kickers, a Connecticut outfit that does a kind of skewed old-time (fans of Damn Bullets, look out) and Counterclockwise, who I don't know anything about, 9 p.m., $5.
Josh Stoffer, the lead singer of Riverboat Crime, one of the stand-out acts of the Showcase so far, plays a free show at Reno's, the day two days before the full band celebrates the release of its full length debut. 9 p.m.
Seven-string jazz guitar whiz Ted Ludwig is at the Afterthought, 8 p.m., $5.
At Gusano's, DJ Debbi T and DJ Chucky P put butts on the floor, 9 p.m., $13.
UALR takes on Denver at the Jack Stephens Center, 7:30 p.m.
The Ebony Fashion Fair is at the Statehouse Convention Center, 7 p.m., $21-$35
