Springfield, Mo.'s favorite family band, Big Smith, always a crowd favorite in these parts, comes to Revolution, 9 p.m., $8.

In Hot Springs, the Grateful Dead tribute act the Schwag helps Maxine's celebrate its second anniversary.

At Cornerstone, local pop standouts the Boswells perform with Clouded Son, 9 p.m., $5.

Sticky Fingerz hosts Nevermind, a Nirvana tribute act, 9:30 p.m., $6.

In its space on South Main, ACAC presents “Show Your Shorts,” a series of short films by local filmmakers.

At the West End, party band Mr. Happy aims to put butts on the dance floor, 9 p.m., $5.

Big Stack is at the Peabody's River Top Party, 8 p.m., $5.

At Vino's, 88.3 FM's Arkansas Underground hosts a rap get-down, 8 p.m., $5.

Popular local act Tragikly White Band plays the Afterthought, 9 p.m., $3.

“Sherlock Holmes” continues at the Rep.

Saturday

Blues woman Charlotte Taylor and her band Gypsy Rain play Cornerstone, 9 p.m., $5.

Roots favorite Shannon Boshears headlines at Cajun's, 9 p.m., $5.

At Sticky Fingerz, local jam-rockers Weakness for Blondes perform, 9 p.m., $5.

The Schwag  closes out their second night helping Maxine's celebrate its second anniversary, 9 p.m., $5.

Featuring members of the Munks, the Good Time Ramblers perform at the West End, 9 p.m., $5.

At Discovery DJ Moongod and Weswood spin in the disco, while Balance keeps itmoving in the lobby, midnight, $10.

Not many were shocked when Curtis Lavelle Vance was found guilty last week of capital murder, rape, residential burglary and theft of property in the October 2008 beating death of KATV anchor Anne Pressly. /more/
