Just a rumor

A couple regular Rock Candy readers told me that they'd heard on the Point this morning that Juanita's had been sold and would shortly be reopening as a hip-hop club.

Not true says Juanita's general manager Chris Pickens.

If you love Juanitas like I do go support them now! Go have a drink and watch a show...and if you don't drink buy your friends a round.

Surely if the bar is turning a profit then we won't have to worry about losing such an awesome venue...

The rumor I hear is they're 'considering' closing the music half and focusing on Juanitas as a restaurant.
Doubtful that anything will happen in the near future.

if they''d book anything worth a shit i'd be there every weekend (seems like I was a decade ago).

I second that. Juanita's hasn't had decent shows in a couple of years now. People past the age of 23 don't listen to modern rock. It seems to cater, for the most part, to a younger crowd that likes rock played on the radio.

Doesn't it seem like they should have been the place to book Black Lips, Deerhunter, M. Ward, Caribou, Grizzly Bear and a number of other acts on that level over the last few years.
