Free Candy: "Faubus Fables" (with words), TV on the Radio and Marnie Stern

Charles Mingus "Original Faubus Fables"
Today, on the 51st anniversary of the integration of Central High,  here's the original version of a Charles Mingus classic. Columbia, who released the song on "Mingus Ah Um" in 1959, wouldn't let the jazz bassist include the spoken word bit, so a year later, Mingus released his own version on Candid Records. Boo! Nazi Fascist supremist!  [WFMU's Beware of the Blog]

TV on the Radio "Lover's Day"
There's not much out there that's more sonically interesting than TVOTR. Here, off the excellent just-released "Dear Science," Tunde Adepimbe moans lyrics like "I want to break your back" into the ear of Celebration's Katrina Ford, who's along for some falsetto dueting. Romance! Dig the triumphant chorus. It's hard not to fist pump. [Pop Tarts Suck Toasted]

Marnie Stern "Ruler"
Finger-tapped, squeaky-voiced emotional urgency to bop to. [Fluxblog]
