The Coens to do "True Grit" sooner rather than later
The Coen brothers have bumped their adaptation of Charles Portis' "True Grit" into the batter's box, ahead of projects like an adaption of Michael Chabon's "Yiddish Policemen's Union," according to Variety.
Arkansas film commissioner Christopher Crane says the brothers haven't decided where they're filming and that Arkansas could be in the running if the film incentive package, which is scheduled for committee in the senate tomorrow, is signed into law. Ultimately, Crane suspects, they'll go where they can get the best deal.
I heard, through the grapevine, they were spotted at Whole Hog a month or two back.
Unlike the 1969 John Wayne adaptation, the Coens plan to stay true to Portis' book and film from the protagonist Maddie Ross' point of view, Variety reports. The trade magazine also notes, hilariously, that it "will be their first period Oater."
Love the ridiculous movie slang.

if they film TG in Arkansas, then moviegoers will find out the Rocky Mountains are not just outside Ft Smith. Well it was nice while it lasted.
