Kevin Eubanks, Kingston Trio, "Cabaret" and these people coming to UCA

Best. Photoshopping. Ever.

Jay Leno's right hand music man (still, apparently) Kevin Eubanks kicks off UCA's Public Appearances recently announced schedule for 2009/2010. The jazz guitarist is slated for September 19.

Also on the schedule: a folk reunion bill featuring the Kingston Trio, the Limelighters and the Brothers Four; "Cabaret," which you'll remember is a musical that prominently features women in garter belts and Nazis; the Moscow Festival Ballet doing "Sleeping Beauty" and the illusionists above, who're like the Midwest version of David Blaine, I guess.

All performances are scheduled for Reynolds Performance Hall.

Tickets for all the shows go on-sale on August 17.

Hey, nothing against your right to write "I guess" rather than research a performing arts roster, I guess, but do you realize that these non-profit concert venues are struggling lilke crazy to stay afloat and that every word you write and don't write has a huge effect on the economy and on the turnout of arts audiences?

Reducing the musical "Cabaret" to a music video image doesn't help, either. And it's not an accurate portrayal of what that musical stands for.

Maybe you've noticed, but solemnity isn't really the tone of this blog.

I'm flattered that you think I'm so influential, but to suggest that I'm crippling local arts institutions joke by joke is more than a stretch.

It''s not that I think you are that influential, but that anyone who writes about concerts is influential, especially at a time in Little Rock and in Arkansas when fine arts coverage is at a minimum (see: Arkansas Democrat Gazette). So, you really ARE influential, because there just isn't much coverage out there.

Cllassical music and theater, as well as fine arts non-profit concert series, need all the help they can get. The public is becoming less and less educated about shows like Cabaret and music written by symphonic composers.

From where you sit, I know it's not a problem. From where I sit, I can see a real one.

I'm not asking for solemnity so much as for context and facts, even in arts reporting blurbs. I don't see how I was suggesting that you are crippling arts institutions, but I sure do think you're dumbing down your readers on a regular basis.
