Piano man William Staggers returns to the Afterthought, 9 p.m., $7.

Jonesboro act Starroy calls its music “country fried psychedelic rock 'n' roll,” but “jam” would probably get you there, too. The band shares a bill at Sticky Fingerz with Ten Cent Hat, 9:30 p.m., $5.

Benton's Dead Celt Society approach Celtic music with a punk perspective, Vino's, 8:30 p.m.

Actress Gabrielle Union is the latest speaker in Philander Smith's “Bless the Mic” lecture series, Harris Auditorium, 7 p.m., free.

At White Water, Shreveport's Dirtfoot plays self-styled “gypsy punk country grumble boogie” (somewhat surprisingly, the band recently collaborated with Belle and Sebastian vet Isobel Campbell) with Little Rock's electric folk boogie heroes Damn Bullets sharing the bill, 9 p.m., $5.

Young, emo-ish indie band Mae gets strong opening support from Locksley, Deas Vail and Big Boots at the Village, 8 p.m., $12 adv., $15 d.o.s.

Soul duo Brenda and Ellis come to the Afterthought at 9 p.m., $5.

Local singer/songwriter Lucious Spiller brings his band to Sticky Fingerz, 9:30 p.m., $5.

Lately, Discovery is opening up its lobby dance area at 9 p.m. Balance DJs there, while Michael Shane mans the disco, midnight, $10.
