Eureka Springs City Council doesn't believe in a market economy

The Eureka Springs City Council voted to deny the issuance of a permit for a second taxi cab service.  For those of you that don't know this about me, I'm on the Conway City Council.  We recently were asked to approve a second taxi service in Conway.  We unanimously (and without much debate about the matter) approved it.  None of us seemed to believe that it was our place to tell a potential business owner that there was or wasn't a market for their services.  That is their business decision.  You can argue that there is a role to be played in  regulating  the  fees charged by the service--after all, you the service is used by visitors, the elderly, the poor, and the DWI crowd.  All of these folks are at the mercy of the cab service and protection is justifiable.  But this is America.  Don't we believe in a market economy?
