Hope looks to wireless broad-band Internet for Economic Development
A comment was made on an earlier post that rural areas should get together in order to create a co-op for the purpose of providing internet. Well, this story sounds an awful lot like such an animal. Like so many things, the city is hanging wireless internet on the economic development peg. I think this angle is a bit off-the-mark. This initiative will improve the quality of life for the town of Hope. Quality of life is good for ED but the wireless internet itself is not a great leap in ED. This may sound like a fine distinction but it really isn't. Over and over I see cities and towns acting upon short-sighted plans. There is not a home run to ED, it takes a comprehensive approach to improving your city's quality of life. Cities and towns have to provide a reason for their young people not to move away, so that companies are willing to move their people in. Until this happens, a town is never going to make hay.
