The Lovely County Citizen has reflective coverage of what the recent passage of a public initiative making marijuana the city's lowest law enforcement priority means for their city.

I don't really know why everyone is so excited. Eureka Springs' M.O. is making progressive social statements. What do people expect? This is a little-known hamlet tucked away deep in the Ozarks (purposely, by the citizens and the visitors); how many people will even really take notice or be affected?

That being said, Kudos to Eureka for making a statement about the national drug "policy," even if some folks disagree. There is not a dry line between "good" drugs and "bad" drugs. People should realize that drugs are all "bad" in excess, and yes there is a sliding scale of "badness" for drugs. The national drug policy should reflect this, but it is easier to regulate than educate.

I am still not convinced that marijuana is a worse drug than alcohol or nicotine when used in the same frequence or quantity. I'd like to see a little more emperical evidence for or against this.

As for the other stuff, let's leave that for another day. Obviously, putting something made with battery acid and bleach in your body won't yeild positive results.
