Clark County Judge vetos Jail Tax Ordinance

As I posted before, Clark County is in the process of presenting to the voters a proposal for three sales taxes for economic development, public safety, and a new Jail.  Well, the County Judge vetoed the unanimous vote in favor of the ordinance authorizing the presentment of the sales tax proposal for the new jail.  He says there will be ongoing costs involved that would not be covered by a sales tax that will sunset in five years.

The council can overturn him with a two-thirds vote.  There may be damage to the perception of the jail portion of the sales tax though.  If the county judge is against it then that will make it very easy for the public to be against it.
