Pine Bluff has a Charter School

and the superintendent of schools is none-too-happy about it.

OK, it's generally established that I'm an aginner, not just with this idea, but with most things new.
In this venue, I'm inclined to think that Mr. Anthony and his ilk have the responsibility to provide safe and successful schools. Why they can't is beyond my capability to understand, given that they have far greater funding and resources than educators of previous eras did.
What do we do? Do we who care about our children's or grandchildren's education simply accept this shortcoming and find an alternative to public schools?
My guess is that many of the children who will attend the new charter school are those who would have done well in public school anyway, simply because their families value a good education.
If charter schools can provide a better education -- apparently that argument is being made and may have some weight, can it be argued that we are consigning the greater preponderance of Pine Bluff's children to a second rate education?
If so, why?
