Quitman schools to seek a millage increase

The proposal would be for the construction of a new classroom building, gym and fieldhouse, cafeteria, and parking lot.  Quitman is near on the Faulkner county line.  The Quitman School District is evidently in competition with Greenbrier for students.  This competition prompted an exchange at the meeting regarding the merits of putting the new buildings on the highway in order to better market their school.  I guess I'm naive because I believe that a great way to market your school would be to provide a great education to your students.  Perhaps a new gym on the highway works too.

Comments

Well, if you head down the road from Quitman a few miles, you'll pass the Guy-Perkins school. They have an impressive gym visible from the highway. Maybe this is where Quitman got the idea.

BTW, Quitman built a football field for their newly formed team -- visible from the highway -- but right now it looks more like a rodeo arena.
