Is it possible city staff has forgotten the Telecomm Board exists?
Watching the Fayetteville Planning Commission on the Government Channel, I found myself less than enthralled by their agenda, as they struggled mightily with the problem of granting Verizon permission to plant a cell tpwer in our midst. Never in the discussion did I hear anyone say, "Hey, are cell towers our only options? What about new technologies?"
Being the Planning Commission, one might forgive them for not being up on these things.
If only - if only - Fayetteville had some sort of committee that dealt with this sort of thing, where cell tower technology might be discussed by folks who actually study such issues! Maybe some sort of Telecommunications Board, that the city staff could refer such questions to, long before they reach the Planning Commission?
hmmm . . .
Yeah, I know. I'll probably get vetoed if I dare re-apply for the Telecomm Board once my term is up. Such is life.

I read in the business pages of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette this morning that Wal-Mart and Windstream Corporation (out of Little Rock) have teamed up to contribute $60,000 to help launch a fundraising campaign for Arkansas Rice Depot.
Arkansas Rice Depot is designed to battle hunger in our fair state, by providing backpacks of food for hungry children.
I wonder how many of those hungry children come from homes in which the primary bread-winner works at Wal-Mart?
