Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and "America's Phony"

Ah - the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette got to stretch its muscles today and refer to John Edwards as “America’s Phony,” echoing the ADG’s intellectual gurus, Jackie Mason and Bill O’Reilly.  Why is he a phony?  Well, he had this nasty habit, you see, of talking about poverty - and he has millions of dollars in the bank!

At this point, one is surprised that the ADG didn’t just come right out and refer to Edwards as a traitor to his class. Imagine, a guy with money concerned about poverty and health care. He should be run out of town on a rail!

I suppose by this line of reasoning, the only folks who can “legitimately” talk about poverty are the poor - in which case they can be totally ignored by the likes of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.  Either that, or they can whine about people stirring up "class warfare."

I guess Robert Kennedy was a phony, too, back in 1968, according to the reasoning of the ADG.

This actually goes a long way to explaining why the editors at the ADG don’t give a fig about the issues of poverty, or health care reform, or workplace safety - they just have too much darned money in the bank.

I mean, I imagine that Paul Greenberg is just dying to weigh in on these issues, but there’s just too much money in the till at the paper. They’re afraid of looking like hypocrites.

It’s much better this way. They can just sit back and mock anyone with a stock portfolio  who actually professes concern for working class issues.

Bob Losure: From CNN to C.A.T.

Those interested in the early days of CNN may be interested in an interview I did a few years back with former CNN anchor Bob Losure., which will run this week.  He’s pretty informative, and amusing as all get out.

Show times:

Thursday - 6pm
Friday - 1:30pm
Saturday - 2pm

C.A.T. can be found on Channel 18 on the Cox Channel line-up in Fayetteville. Your town still doesn’t have public access television?

Lost in Translation

For all those who emailed me about the English translation of the bit of Latin I used in an earlier blog:

God! Look at the time! My wife will kill me!

Yeah - it does look sound cooler in Latin.
