And then I have some land to sell you . . .

Wonderful bit of writing in the sports section of the Friday edition Arkansas Democrat-Gazette - “A night to remember: 7,820 fans pack park for opener” - glossing over the less-than-memorable performance of the Northwest Arkansas Naturals:

“The fact that the San Antonio Missions defeated the Naturals 7-1 was merely an afterthought because this night wasn’t about the outcome. It was all about the beginnings.”

Yeah, right.

Unclean! Unclean!

Some have dreams of great clarity, that may lead their people out of the wilderness. Still others have dreams of prophecy, while others merely have really great erotic dreams.

To my everlasting shame, I must report that last night I had a dream in which Dick Cheney told me a joke about Spiro Agnew . . . and I laughed.

It wasn’t quite the sort of dream where you wake up and consider taking a shower for a few hours to cleanse yourself, but I thought about it.

On the Air with Barbara Fitzpatrick

This week the guest on my show will be Barbara  Fitzpatrick,   Democratic candidate for Washington County Quorum Court (District 6), who is facing no opposition from the Republican party this November. She will take her seat in January.

Fitzpatrick, who works as an administrative  assistant in the Sociology Department at the University of Arkansas, is well-known to many in the Northwest area for her many letters to the editor, in which she has written expensively on the need for Democratic leadership in Washington D.C. and universal healthcare.

During the interview, Fitzpatrick discusses her political views, and issues that face rural Americans in the 21st Century.

Times and showings:

Monday - 7pm
Tuesday  - noon
Saturday   - 6pm

C.A.T. is seen on Channel 18 on the Cox Channel line-up in Fayetteville. Gee, maybe your town should have public access.

I noted you had to go to Ark Democrat-Gazette to get an idea of attendance and the road jam at Chickenopolis's most recent disaster called the Arvest Stadium.

The Morning News having become a waste of pixels or paper chose to once again sell the sizzle.
During the entire lead-up to selling the Stadium Vote, which passed by 13 votes in a town of
63,000, the Morning News never once reported an opposing view. When the thing tanks with Bush's recession getting full bloom they will step in a say something mealy-mouthed about how the city should have been more comprehensive about economic indicators. Yea. Can't wait for the Morning News regular dish of editorial bullshit.

I was among the crowd at Arvest Ballpark on Friday night when it was cold and damp and Kila Kaiihue hit a grand slam home run for the Naturals. I'll be there many more times this fall. The CAVEs (Citizens Against Virtually Everything) can't quite grasp the reality of the stadium election -- they lost. And we now have our stadium and we are the better for it. Elwood and friends are welcome to attend anytime, and will likely have a better time there than they currently do grousing on the blogs.

So the Religious Right wing of the Republican Party won't accept a woman in the pulpit but will accept a woman in the White House. /more/
