105 in the Shade - Hey, Coach - wanna join us?

How hot was it yesterday?

Well, it was so hot that Channel 29 thought it was hot enough to feature a substantial portion of their 5pm “news” to the heat and - you guessed it - sports! Which is basically the same story they do every year at this time, actually.

Still, watching the images, with players (some with pads, some not), all wearing helmets, practicing in the great outdoors, a thought occurred to me.

If you’re gonna make these kids go outside in this weather and practice - which seems oh, I don’t know, criminally insane - - why not make the coaches wear the same gear as the players? Watching the coaches with their light hats, and sports shirts on, talking about how important it was to keep the boys hydrated, I just couldn’t help thinking that this would be great for morale, if the coach had to come lumbering out in the hot sun, dressed in full regalia, complete with helmet and pads.

Now, that’s Solidarity.

We’re not likely to see it though, huh?

And while we’re on the subject of weather

Why is it that the weather has to be covered three times on local news? Do they think that our attention spans are that limited? Or is it to make up for the fact that they don’t have much else to put on the air?

No, I don’t wanna talk to you - sorry, DEA

A headline found yesterday from the Associated Press:

Official: Mary Kate Olsen silent on Ledger OD
By TOM HAYS
NEW YORK (AP) —— Federal investigators want to question actress Mary Kate Olsen about how Heath Ledger got two powerful painkillers that contributed to his accidental overdose death, but she's not talking, a law enforcement official said Monday.

Olsen's lawyer has twice refused requests to have her sit down with investigators probing the death of the scene-stealing star of "The Dark Knight" earlier this year in a Manhattan apartment, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation has not been concluded . . .

If one of my friends died under similar circumstances, and I “refused” to talk to law enforcement, I wonder how long I’d get away with it?
