« Democrat with a capital "D" | Main | In Sarah Palin's world, "getting stoned" may not be as much fun as it used to be . . . »

Oh, my God - she's Margaret Thatcher!

Well, the GOP throngs went wild over the meanspirited rantings of Sarah Palin last night, I couldn’t help but consider that at long last, we had a potential American Iron Lady in-the-making. Her speech, which brought the snarling crowd to their feet several times, was little more than a spiteful recitation of insults aimed at those she - and the rest of the GOP - has little use for.

But these are Republicans, and this is what they do. They mock, and insult, and sneer. This is how they stir the emotions of their followers - not by appealing to their better natures, but behaving like washed-up comedians, lowering themselves to the same level as the hecklers in the back row.

John Seery of huffingtonpost.com  had this to say in his essay about the new darling of the GOP, in a piece called,  “Sarah Palin: The Face of Ugly Americanism”:

What I saw on that stage was the personification of small-minded smugness, an utter lack of humility, a kind of self-righteous entitlement based on little more than puffed-up narrowness. She struck me not as plucky but, rather, as stunningly immodest--to the point of arrogance. Some people are arrogant and maybe deserve to be. They know it, and flaunt it, while everyone else thinks they are jerks. But there's another kind of arrogance, perhaps harder to spot at first, an arrogance that apparently doesn't even recognize itself as such, a sanctified, self-satisfied presumptuousness that flows from sheer naïïvetéé about oneself and the world and manifests itself in giddy ambition.

I’m just waiting for Sarah Palin to start whining about “pointy-headed intellectuals”

Nora Ehpron asks this today:

Does anyone really think that executive experience trumps wisdom and intellect?

Oh, yeah.

Remember, this is the crowd that was chanting wildly, “Drill baby, drill!” after Rudy Giuliani
proclaimed it in his speech last night.

Don’t forget, Alaska is right next to Russia

Cindy McCain - bless her heart - has now joined the chorus of those who claim that Sarah Palin has some international experience, since “Alaska is next to Russia. “ Yeah - she probably had top-secret meetings with all those political prisoners in Siberia, too . . .

So I guess every governor of every state that borders Canada is on an equal footing with Palin?
