Telecomm Board Resignation
It is some regret that I must inform you of my decision to resign from the Telecommunications Board. Though I have tremendously enjoyed the past several years, and believe strongly in the role of the Telecomm Board, for far too long I have put too many other projects on the back-burner while I have engaged in Telecomm related business.
I still believe strongly in both the need for the Telecomm Board, and feel a strong sense of pride in the work we have accomplished in the last several years, which includes rewriting policies, and holding important public forums, so that the public might be better informed of the issues facing them.
I am also, on a personal note, pleased that the TB shows more humor and good grace during each meeting than many other government meetings. It may seem a small thing, but I have long agreed with the philosophy of astronaut Wally Schirra, who told this to LIFE magazine in 1967, before embarking on Apollo 7:
“Levity is important in a dangerous profession.”
While we can all agree that TB meetings are far from dangerous, I always feel that public meetings run the risk of being a little too close to being dangerously dull. A little humor helps both the team and the folks watching at home, I think.
Though I am resigning, I am mindful of the rules which state that I need to remain on the board until my replacement is chosen by the city council, through the usual process.
That being said, I will not be attendance at the October meeting, as I am in Oklahoma - unfortunately, not the musical, but the actual state.
