Joe the Plumber sings the best of Cole Porter

Yes, the astute film lover will recognize that line as being lifted (stolen) from Smokey and the Bandit II.

John McCain’s “mentor and role model” is all over the map these days, offering up what passes for political wisdom in the Republican party at the drop of a hat. A lot of folks are writing about that - some of it is getting nothing short of hysterical.

But what happens to JTP once the cameras go away, as they are sure to do? Loss of sudden fame is a  shock to the system, and some will do almost anything to get it back. Will JTP end up on some ghastly reality show, or a panelist on Foxy News? A soul crying out for help on a celebrity rehab program?

Will his autobiography be rushed out in paperback, and hawked at gun shows and church
bake sales?

To say nothing of his hinted at country music career?

Offhand, I’d say a public access series may be in JTP’s future somewhere down the road.

When the cameras are turned off - sometimes it isn’t funny

Remember Baby Jessica, the infant who fell down the well in Texas? The fireman who pulled her out was a national hero.

Yet within a year, after the cameras went away, his life literally disintegrated. His marriage fell apart, and he took his own life. There are other stories just as tragic as this one.

The sudden fame can be intoxicating, and and quite addictive. And when it goes away?

You’d have be really well-adjusted to handle the sudden loss of attention.

Quote of the Day

"Civil disobedience is not our problem. Our problem is civil obedience. Our problem is that numbers of people all over the world have obeyed the dictates of the leaders of their
government and have gone to war, and millions have been killed because of this obedience. . . Our problem is that people are obedient all over the world in the face of poverty and starvation and stupidity, and war, and cruelty" : Howard Zinn

Let Coody be Coody!

That frightening concept was expressed in a letter to the editor this morning in the Northwest Arkansas Times.

Who has he been up until now? Have his political handlers been holding back him for eight years?

So the guy that many people see - the Schmoozer-in-Chief - isn’t the real Dan Coody after all? The guy who drowns in public self-pity at the drop of a hat is an imposter?  Well, cool!

We’ve still got two days - let the lion be unleashed!

Mike Masterson endorses Dan Coody - Stop the Presses!

I’m sure that everyone was waiting breathlessly, wondering which direction Mike Masterson was going to go in this election. I’ll bet Brother Dan can now shed a sigh of relief.

On the other hand, Dan Coody, Fayetteville mayoral hopeful, was just publicy endorsed by a guy who thought it was perfectly acceptable to pass along the most racist rumor now making its way around the country:

Threats of riots already are circulating should Barack Obama not be elected president.

Yeah, quite an endorsement there, Dan.
