Fox News: Pick a Target - any target

The murder of Kansas abortion provider George Tiller, shot down in church, as the saying goes, in front of God and everybody, seems almost a test case for the increasingly shrill calls to action of the organized and angry Right, who have left articulate discourse behind, and seem more and more eager to exhort the Orcs among their followers to take action.

From the aburd hatred sprewed out by talk-radio’s Michael Savage, to Sarah Palin, stroking the audience into ever higher feelings of rage on the campaign trail last year, the rage has been building among the unstable, the angry, and the outright stupid.

The thuggish Bill O’Reilly of Fox News went after Dr. Tiller almost 30 times since 2005, often referring him on air by the moniker that some in the anti-abortion crowd had given him, “Tiller the Killer.”

After Tiller’s murder, Reilly went on the air, and in a diatribe that was whiny as ever, said, among other things:

When I heard about Tiller’’s murder, I knew pro-abortion zealots and Fox News haters would attempt to blame us for the crime, and that’’s exactly what has happened . . .

Yes, Bill, in this case, it really is all about you.

A few months ago James Adkisson went into a Unitarian Church, “inspired” by Bernard Goldberg’s book,  100 People Who Are Screwing Up America, determined to put his inspiration into action, and shot and killed several people.

Adkisson released a four-page manifesto at his trial as his final statement, part of which reads:

This was a symbolic killing. Who I wanted to kill was every Democrat in the Senate & House, the 100 people in Bernard Goldberg's book. I'd like to kill everyone in the mainstream media. But I know those people were inaccessible to me. I couldn't get to the generals & high ranking officers of the Marxist movement so I went after the foot soldiers, the chickenshit liberals that vote in these traitorous people. Someone had to get the ball rolling. I volunteered. I hope others do the same. It's the only way we can rid America of this cancerous pestilence."

Goldberg is a Fox News contributor.

Think back to 2008, and the almost literal screaming at the television screens from the likes of O’Reilly, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, or the GOP candidates concerning William Ayers.

Would any of them have shed a tear if someone had killed William Ayers, in a patriotic frenzy? Or would they have offered up the same whiny self-serving crap that Bill O’Reilly did this week?

David Eddings, fantasy author, passes away

There is a lovely tribute to fantasy author David Eddings, who passed away at aged 77, at:

Fantasy and science fiction have saved so many of us from unpleasant realities. I’ll miss David Eddings. I’m sorry I never took the opportunity to write and tell him how much I enjoyed his work.

Quote of the Day

I'm enough of a pessimist that I'm going to continue writing fantasy." - David Eddings
