UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT: The Razorbacks, now coached by Bobby Petrino.

Football fans should be pleased by the latest addition to the Little Rock sports circuit: a team in the new All American Football League. The league will also have squads in Alabama, Tennessee, Michigan, Florida and Texas. Players will play on teams in the region where they went to college, and only players with four-year college degrees are eligible. Arkansas fans can expect to see Anthony Brown, Chris Chukwama, Clint Stoerner, J.J. Jones, and K.D. Williams at War Memorial Stadium, where the team — known only by the state name — will play its home games. Former Razorback quarterback Ron Calcagni will coach. Games are scheduled for April through June.

With the gain of one team comes the loss of another: The Arkansas Rimrockers of the NBA development league are gone after three seasons at Alltel. Hoops fans will have to get their fill at the college level. The Razorbacks, UALR, Philander Smith, and Arkansas Baptist all have a full slate of games. (You can find former Razorback and NBA cager Corliss Williamson on the Arkansas Baptist men’s sideline this season as an assistant coach.)
