I just think the place is striking a perfect balance between being a good bar, a good place for food, and a family friendly joint where the kids can have ice cream while the adults enjoy their beer.
Plus I can't stress enough how friendly everyone has been every time I've been in there. It's a classy joint, and as someone who loves Hot Springs, I'm proud of this place making downtown better.
@Ginger Mills -- First, let me say that I am very sorry for your loss. The initial purpose of this article was to report that an Arkansan who had a creative idea had passed after a struggle with illness, express sympathy from the food community, and we leave it there.
Once the Taco Bell people started contacting me, I added it to the post as an example of a company missing the point entirely and going in a strange direction.
Mr. Kavanaugh asked me to remove his post. I declined. If Mrs. Mills had made the same request, I would have done so out of respect for her and her family.
I'll end by saying this: The Mills family is in no way asking for money from Taco Bell. Mr. Mills did not ask for money before his death, either. And Taco Bell's actions have been less than appropriate, and I've reported such. Mr. Mills DID, however, bring some fun and free advertising to both YUM Foods and Frito-Lay, and some help from them isn't extortion, it's just a nice gesture to a grieving family.
We should close down the war on terrorism.
Terrorism is simply a weapon. (Or as Molly Ivins said, "How do you fight a noun?") How is using a truck bomb to kill 100 people different from using 1,000 bombers to kill 43,000 people (Hamburg 1943)? Or 100,000 (Tokyo 1945)?
Labeling someone a terrorist serves no useful purpose. There are individuals and groups that pose a threat to world peace and stability. They should be dealt with appropriately.
BTW, I will be in Sierra Leone next month helping train an army unit prior to its deployment to Somalia where it will be fighting the al Shabaab group. The words "terrorist" and "terrorism" will not used during the training. The tactics, techniques and procedures (TTP) used by al-Shabaab will be taught.
More news from the intrepid mountaingirl as she transports life-giving serum to the sick poor children of Mountaingirl Mountain.
Highway 10 along side Lake Maumelle is frozen solid with almost no traffic. Highway 10 at the Pulaski-Perry County line is shiny solid ice. Highway 10 south of Perryville is clear. She texts back it's completely clear. 10-4 and God's speed mountaingirl!
The condition of Fort Baptist streets is unknown because I haven't even looked out the front door. No one has ever called me intrepid!
I called this guy out immediately. He removed his posts after I started exposing it and found his connections to Taco Bell. My research suggests that "Robert" isn't a real person and is in fact Taco Bells PR. Probably Amy.
The chat log between his account and mine after I called him out is going to be a nightmare for Taco Bell.
outlier, maybe you saw the Mike Ross ad above the balloon juice commentary?
Bite me, Brantley.
Dr. Strange, you would have loved living in Medieval Europe and fiefdom. An economic system right down your alley of thinking. Unless you were a member of the Third estate, of course.
72 years ago today the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. In another 60 years will Sept. 11 be in the same dusty box of memory?
This post by mistermix says much the same thing.
And this from his comments says it in a nutshell.
"Democrats worry that someone who needs help isn’t getting it. Republicans worry that someone who doesn’t deserve help is getting it. If you would rather have innocent people starve than see someone get something you don’t think they deserve then the Republican Party is for you."
How ironic- Strangeone is jealous of Max for his and his wife's success in life.
And Max living in a mansion, no less. Max, have you been keeping this a secret?
HDM could learn a thing or two from Dat Dog in New Orleans. This is a hipster place in a hipster neighborhood of New Orleans. All kinds of sausages (hot dogs, brats, veggie, fish), great fries, beverages (soft drinks, beer, and mixed drinks). Great places to to eat outside . This is what I thought HDM was planning. Here's the link: http://datdognola.com
It's not a question of people being rich or making money. I think even our troll who posts such nonsense knows better while pretending not to. He's a tool, but not stupid. We've always had rich people and people making money and we always will.
No, it's a question about how much of the total economic pie the super wealthy hoard like Scrooge McDuck or Ebeneezer Scrooge (or wannabe Scrooge McStrange) and how little everyone else has to survive on.
You can't criticize the working poor out of one side of your mouth while making sure you lobby the congress critters you own for that very economic outcome out of the other side of your mouth. You end up looking like the hypocrite you are.
In the years after World War II what allowed America to become so prosperous and envied around the world was the ability of average workers (remember the now almost extinct 'middle class'?) to earn a living wage that supported their families. That's no longer true, and has become less and less true over the past 40 years.
Saturday, noon: Mountaingirl asks by phone to alert everyone of a bad traffic backup on I-40 westbound between Conway and Little Rock. A wreck has completely stopped traffic for what appears to be 20 miles, she says. She's making cautious progress eastbound to Little Rock and seeing a few cars in the ditches, but vehicles are moving steadily at 60 mph. Avoid I-40 west if possible in that area!

Well, it's up to 18 here in the northern climes. Cold metaphors? Colder than a witches teat in a brass bra comes to mind as we patiently await the Missouri Auburn kickoff.
A news report yesterday about nationwide picketing Thursday by fast food workers seeking a living wage noted that 52% of fast food workers receive some form of taxpayer assistance- food stamps, Medicaid, etc. Total assistance was said to be $7 billion. I'm not sure if that $7 billion is federal assistance only or includes state assistance.
The 52% is twice the percentage of non-fast food workers who qualify for such assistance. Imagine.
Our so-called 'free market system' of capitalism has evolved into wealthy corporations shucking their expenses onto the backs of taxpayers. What a good deal for them. What a bad deal for us taxpayers.
One more example of American 'exceptionalism'.
So what is your point? There aren't any terrorists in the world, just misunderstood freedom fighters. Then let's close down our war on terror because there just aren't any terrorists.
My grandfather visited South Africa back in 1973 and he got to visit with many of the locals concerning their life circumstances. The whites in South Africa were convinced that they had to keep things how they were or all chaos were break forth. It is a sad commentary on the state of our fallen world that it took so long for freedom to come to South Africa. Sadly it was slow coming to the USA in 1861 when a war broke out because of slavery.
