Guarding the border

Yes, National Guard troops from everywhere, including Arkansas, will be called to patrol the Mexican border under the plan Bush will announce today. This deployment undoubtedly will be as temporary as his tax cuts. And the numbers seem sure to increase, from the initial 10,000. A Republican from Georgia is already calling for upping the numbers to 48,000 troops.

And what are we going to do about the porous Canadian border?

Josh Marshall says "there is simply no gambit too craven or silly for this president not to resort to it."
