Saturday plans?

Posted By on Fri, May 19, 2006 at 7:57 PM

The weather suggests outdoor activities on Saturday. But we thought we'd mention a couple of events on the morning calendar:

10 a.m. -- South Park and DaisyBates Drive. Groundbreaking for the new visitor center for the Central High School National Historic Site. Some members of the Little Rock Nine, as well as public officials are expected. There's been some talk that at least some informal signs should emerge about simmering tensions surrounding planning for the 50th anniversary event in 2007. There are differences of opinion, still, about the events of the year, emphasis in the planned news display, etc., along with old hurt feelings and more.

10 a.m. to noon -- old Lee School at Twelth and Pine. The Coalition of Little Rock Neighborhoods is sponsoring a candidates forum. Speakers in races for sheriff, JP, legislature, attorney general, state treasurer, lieutenant governor.
