Brummett writes of straddles in the runoff for attorney general, specifically on abortion, before concluding it shouldn't be an issue. A defining issue? Maybe not. But an influential issue where there are many similarities between the candidates? Absolutely. Dustin McDaniel obliterates the false proposition that you can't be pro-choice and conservative on other issues. Paul Suskie, meanwhile, tries to make himself look less anti-abortion than he appeared in answering our earlier questions on the subject and in demagoguing the issue in an interview with the Democrat-Gazette. Talk about straddling. Also: If you think an attorney general can't be a critical player in abortion issues, take a look at the attorney general in Kansas. There, under cover of enforcement of state laws, the a.g. has gone on a fishing expedition through women's private medical files.
