How stupid is the Bush administration?

It is a bottomless pit, but this report from ABC about the Homeland Security Department takes the cake.

Security funding to New York city, twice a target of terrorist attacks, is being slashed by 40 percent. Why? The Homeland Security Department said the city has no "national monuments or icons." We kid you not, unless this is an Onion masquerading as ABC News. We think even Asa! might have sniffed out this bad decision (though he might well have found other reasons to cut security spending in New York in favor of fire trucks for red states.)

The formula did not consider as landmarks or icons: The Empire State Building, The United Nations, The Statue of Liberty and others found on several terror target hit lists. It also left off notable landmarks, such as the New York Public Library, Times Square, City Hall and at least three of the nation's most renowned museums: The Guggenheim, The Metropolitan and The Museum of Natural History.

The form ignored that New York City is the capital of the world financial markets and merely stated the city had four significant bank assets.
