Possible LR nicknames narrowed to six

Posted By on Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 4:21 PM

Little Rock just announced six finalists in its search for the perfect city nickname:

America’s Gem
The Rock
River City
Rock Town
Southern Comfort
Rock City

Mayor Jim Dailey and Nickname Little Rock Chair David Bazzel have been leading the effort, and the six finalists were chosen from among hundreds of submissions. Now citizens are being asked to weigh in.

"Over the next 30 days, the city wants to hear from citizens again," Dailey said in a press release. "Tell us your favorite one of the top six. After June 30, the public response will be reviewed.  The city will then work with professionals to position not only the nickname but also to promote it."

Opinions can be expressed on the Little Rock website (www.littlerock.org), by emailing nickname@littlerock.org, faxing to City Hall at 371-4498, or by picking up a form at LR City Hall, the River Market, Community Centers, Neighborhood Alert Centers, and the Willie L. Hinton Neighborhood Resource Center.

PS -- Seymour B sez:

Given the Wild West atmosphere in Central LR the last three days, Dailey and Bazzel might consider Glock City.
