Harmonic convergence

A couple of related news releases rolled in:

1) The Family Council will have a press conference at the Capitol Tuesday to show the petitions they've gathered urging Arkansas senators to vote for the constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage and also barring any equal treatment of same-sex couples. If this amendment doesn't pass, I've been assured, my 30-year marriage is in peril. Again, a reader indicates, sarcasm failed me.. My point was that I don't believe the alarums that marriage is imperiled if this amendment doesn't pass. I think my own marriage is safe, along with millions of others (save those imperiled by adultery, violence, incompatibility and, yes, perhaps even a few by previously closeted sexual orientation.) No amount of constitutional amending will change any of that..

2) More gay-baiting is scheduled in Beebe Wednesday, where representatives of the Fred Phelps "church" in Kansas have announced they will be bringing their "God Hates Fags" tour to another military funeral. (Their bizarre reasoning is that American troops are dying as God's punishment for what little tolerance exists for gay people in these United States.) A new state law is aimed at moving such demonstrators farther from the church. The Phelpses may also be attended by the volunteeer motorcycle groups that have deputized themselves nationally to shield the grieving from these demonstrators.

The funeral is for Army Spec. Bobby West, killed by an explosive while on foot patrol in Baghdad. Words cannot harm him nor diminish his sacrifice. The evil posse is best ignored
