Susan McDougal sure enough talked at the alternative newsweeklies convention this morning at the Peabody. It was filmed by C-SPAN for later showing and is worth a watch. She retold her Whitewater horror story as a prelude to comments about a coming  book. It’s about the treatment she witnessed in some prisons and how you can judge the heart and justice of a people by the guards of their prisons and the succor sometimes offered in unlikely places. She’ll praise some good people she encountered and speak less kindly about some who were not so good. Yes, the book will draw parallels between what she experienced and what we’ve learned of the U.S. treatment of prisoners in the war in Iraq.

Bill Clinton speaks shortly. Gotta run.
