Your morning fix

Posted By on Sat, Jul 15, 2006 at 8:50 AM

Yes, as some commenters noted in last night's open thread, I stay up later and wake up later than Max. Sorry, you're stuck with me until tomorrow.

But here's something to cure your shakes.

Brummett says that all signs point to a Mike Beebe lead in the governor's race, and that the race is his to lose.

Few would dispute that Beebe leads. Few would dispute that his establishment support will be hard to shake. Few would dispute that his healthy fundraising advantage bodes well for his ability to counter whatever Hutchinson throws. Few would dispute that eastern and southern Arkansas lean Democratic so long as the Democrat is palatable, which Beebe likely is already and almost assuredly will be after Marion Berry and Mike Ross, the Democratic congressmen in those regions, finish squiring him around.

All Beebe requires is the ability to close the deal.

  • Another Republican miracle-working governor

Great piece in Washington Post on the budget crisis in Louisiana. Big tax cuts and corporate welfare will do that to a state, particularly to a state whose previous governor, Republican Bobby Jindal, refused to join the Obamacare-funded Medicaid expansion. There's a lesson there for Arkansas.
