Tit for tat

Jim Lagrone, Republican candidate for secretary of state, takes exception to a quote attributed to Democratic Secretary of State Charlie Daniels. Read it on the jump.

FROM THE LAGRONE CAMPAIGN

The following comments were made by Secretary of State Charlie Daniels about me at the Democratic Heaquarters opening in El Dorado this past weekend and printed publicly in the South Arkansas Sunday News.

While I have and will continue to point out my opponent's poor job performance and lack of trust and integrity in handling election issues, I have never and will never make personal attacks on his personal character - which is clearly what Mr. Daniels did in his public comments about me.

We are forwarding an email sent to us about the comments but, in the interest of privacy, eliminated the sender's identity.  We are distributing this information because we think it is important to share Mr. Daniels' comments with the broader public, so they can judge for themselves Mr. Daniels' character and fitness to continue in office.

Jim Lagrone, Republican Candidate
Arkansas Secretary of State

Dear Jim ,
The following news article appeared in the South Aransas Sunday News-August 20 2006, page 3A.

I wanted to let you know that CD was in El Dorado and Mike Beebe at their Dem Headquarters. CD said "He was running against a man who says the election is about honesty, integrity, character and trust. He drew laughter from the crowd when he quipped, "The only problem is he doesn't posses any of those qualities."

It sounds to me that he knows that this lack of those traits is going to be the main issue in this campaign.

Keep hammering away.
