First salvo? UPDATE II

Posted By on Wed, Sep 13, 2006 at 10:34 AM

A$a skeds a 1:30 p.m. news conference today, topic not mentioned. Presumably, he won't be introducing himself and playing home movies of happier days in Benton County. The guns of September?

UPDAT IIE: We're informed the subject is substantive -- access to health care and reducing health care costs. Here's a link to the news release. More sound than fury. But a word about the call for more encouragement of health savings account. Being able to put money into a tax-advantaged account is of little value to people who are spending every cent they make to survive. And, as an unhappy user of an HSA, I can testify from personal experience that it's a dangerous and bewildering road to go down and can have dire consequences in years of unexpected medical costs.

P.S. to campaign staff: We've been fielding complaints about multiple SUVS with A$a! stickers parking every which way -- wrong direction, etc. -- around the A$a HQ on North Pierce. Thought you might want to know neighbors were talking.

  • Trump immigration protest at LR: Quick and fierce

It was not even 24 hours ago that Sophia Said, director of the Interfaith Center; City Director Kathy Webb and others decided to organize a protest today of Donald Trump's executive order that has left people from Muslim countries languishing in airports or unable to come to the US at all — people with visas, green cards,a  post-doc graduate student en route to Harvard, Google employees abroad, families. I got the message today before noon; others didn't find out until it was going on. But however folks found out, they turned out in huge numbers, more than thousand men, women and children, on the grounds of the state Capitol to listen to speakers from all faiths and many countries.
