Today's election

Posted By on Tue, Sep 19, 2006 at 3:55 PM

Several have asked about the fact that scannable paper ballots are being collected in boxes and not run through scanners at precincts in Pulaski County today. Susan Inman, the election coordinator, says there wasn't sufficient time between last week's special sales tax election and this week's school election to gather, program and test the accuracy of all the machines. The simple mechanical demands are complicated by legal notice requirements and a mandatory period in which the machines must be tested and sealed before voting begins.. A  high capacity scanner at the Election Commission office downtown will count all ballots. Results are expected to come late on account of this.
