Speaking of The University

Posted By on Tue, Oct 3, 2006 at 2:35 PM

We belatedly notice a Morning News scoop this morning on announcement of a 1.14 percent budget cut at UA because enrollment fell short and thus revenue won't be sufficient to produce a balanced budget.

The e-mail on the cut was viewed in some quarters on the campus as a subtle message to get out and vote for the coming college bond issue, though the issues aren't really related. The bonds are for capital projects. The budget cuts will come out of people's hides.

We have an idea to save the $2 million necessary in cuts -- about 10 lawyers and administrators ought to get 'er  done. Or one football coach, two lawyers and a couple or three  vice chancellors.
