Doubletalk express

Since Arkansas seems likely to have a candidate in the race for president in 2008, it's worth noting developments from time to time. Today, you might be interested in a post on the Daily Howler, a blog I read regularly. The author is a former classmate of Al Gore and began blogging in part to criticize media for their relentless peddling of false narratives about Gore -- Love Canal discoverer, Love Story model, Internet creator, earthtone wearer, etc.

Today, he examines Sen. John McCain. He's no moderate and he's no straight-shooter, though the media pack has long represented him otherwise. Today, the Howler illustrates with McCain's ever-shifting position on abortion. Will the media continue to style McCain as the straight shooter in 2008? Will Republican opposition fire damage him as it did in 2000?

We were just wondering if Gov. Mike Huckabee's small complaint about McCain's supposed structural fund-raising advantage (the ability to use Senate money for presidential exploring) was a sign that he's taking aim at the senator. Or will Huckabee move carefully, maintaining viability for a No. 2 slot on a 2008 Republican ticket. should he fall short of the top spot? Time will tell.
