The blue pencil deletes ...

... and then moves on.

You perhaps noticed the story in today's Democrat-Gazette about the death of Alabama teens in a school bus accident. Rim Rider jr., a former copy editor, notes differences in the D-G and AP copy:

Original AP version reads:

Students on the bus, which was not equipped with seat belts, were
screaming when rescue workers arrived.

D-G version reads:

Students on the bus were screaming when rescue workers arrived. 

A figurative kewpie doll to the first reader who finds the missing words and knows why they are missing.
