Another reader wants to know what’s the deal with the TV ad for a siding company (Hanke Bros.) that features a person who appears to be in a State Police uniform. Is it legal to use the uniform in commercial advertising? I don’t know. Anyone else know?
UPDATE: There is indeed a statute that prohibits use of State Police uniforms in endorsement of commercial products without the consent of the director of the State Police. Permission for a trooper to appear in the Hanke ad in question was obtained by the company, a spokesman said.

Good idea? That’s another question.
