The president's pastor

Posted By on Wed, Feb 14, 2007 at 9:28 AM

I should have mentioned earlier the news release received from Ouachita Baptist University about ceremonies attending the inauguration of Dr. Rex Horne as OBU's 15th president. The inauguration itself is March 29, but events  begin on March 25. On March 26, a former member of Horne's flock at Immanuel Baptist Church, will deliver a lecture at the college. That would be a fellow named Bill Clinton.

The news release didn't mention a role for another presidential candidate from Arkansas, OBU grad Mike Huckabee, who has a part-time role as director of a center for education and public policy at his alma mater but whose campaigning has kept him from much activity at OBU for the time being..

  • Trump immigration protest at LR: Quick and fierce

It was not even 24 hours ago that Sophia Said, director of the Interfaith Center; City Director Kathy Webb and others decided to organize a protest today of Donald Trump's executive order that has left people from Muslim countries languishing in airports or unable to come to the US at all — people with visas, green cards,a  post-doc graduate student en route to Harvard, Google employees abroad, families. I got the message today before noon; others didn't find out until it was going on. But however folks found out, they turned out in huge numbers, more than thousand men, women and children, on the grounds of the state Capitol to listen to speakers from all faiths and many countries.
