The Broyles deal

Posted By on Fri, Feb 16, 2007 at 9:59 AM

It's done. The athletic director's retirement will be announced tomorrow morning. 9:30 a.m. UA Union. The Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce is organizing a tribute to Frank Broyles after his announcement, which will be said to be entirely his decision and greeted with great regret and understanding by all assembled.

Belatedly, a comment. Broyles' decision to retire in December will offer promise of a change. But it doesn't immediately address powerful unhappiness, particularly in Springdale, over the perceived mistreatment of Coach Gus Malzahn and the Springdale football recruits who spent an unhappy year under Houston Nutt at UA before moving on. Malzahn was much beloved by some very wealthy UA supporters in, among others, the Shiloh Christian community. There are many what-nexts to be answered.
