If Toyota is indeed favoring Arkansas for a new assembly plant, we'll want to get to know the company better. A good place to start is this Sunday NY Times magazine story about the dominant world auto maker. Long-term thinking, even at the expense orf short-term costs, is one major reason for the company's success.

Note that a transportation expert quoted extensively in the piece, James Womack, is a 1966 graduate of Little Rock Hall High School.

The big question raised in the story is whether the redesigned Tundra pickup can take over the U.S. pickup market, the one sector where Chevy and Ford still dominate (and reap big profits).
