Hold the line on wages

Will the legislature go back on its word in less than a year on the minimum wage? The restaurant industry, particularly major restaurants, are pushing to roll back the minimum wage for people who live on tips from $2.63 an hour, which took effect in October. The Coalition that won that increase (and an increase for others to $6.25 an hour) in return for an agreement to drop a constitutional amendment with an escalator clause, will hold a news conference Monday to emphasize the importance of maintaining the wage levels set in 2006. Integrity is one.

    Word continues to filter in of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette's pullback from statewide circulation of a print daily edition of the newspaper — the latest from the Hot Springs area, just 50 or so miles down the road from Little Rock. Subscribers there were told home delivery of a print paper would end in May.
