Suffer the animals

Posted By on Sun, Mar 25, 2007 at 6:14 AM

The Farm Bureau-owned House Agric committee is giving the backers of tougher animal cruelty legislation a special hearing Monday before they consign the bill to oblivion. John Brummett makes one last plea for the cause, a column that notes that Fort Smith prosecutor Gunner Delay favors making animal cruelty a felony.

I'm reminded again of former Rep. Jeremy Hutchinson, another conservative Republican who favors animal cruelty legislation. His rationale: It's nonsensical that it's a felony to steal an expensive lawn mower, but not to nail a child's puppy to a tree.
