Animal cruelty -- UPDATE

Posted By on Mon, Mar 26, 2007 at 5:30 PM

The folks backing a bill to make animal cruelty a felony (a crime on a par with stealing a flat-screen TV), are getting their promised public hearing in a House committee as I write. "Doesn't look good," is the report from one eyewitness. Not surprising. It's in the agriculture committee, a bastion of farm interests, the major source of opposition.

UPDATE: Needing 11 votes, the bill got 5 and failed on a 5-8 roll call.

CHEER: Smith, Prater, Reep, Wills, Lowery.

JEER: Berry, Evans, Sullivan, Ragland, Cooper, Davenport, Sample, Norton.
