Pro-choice

A Senate committee yesterday beat one of the bills requiring the posting of signs at abortion clinics saying women cannot be forced to have abortions.

There's some irony here. Though this bill is yet another nibble at the effort to outlaw abortion, it, of course, should be up to a woman to decide whether she wants a medical procedure for her body -- not a boyfriend, husband, father or any other man. Freedom of choice should prevail, in other words. For years, the overwhelmingly male Arkansas legislature has been trying to make that decision -- in the negative -- for women about whose circumstances they have no idea.
