Better later than never

Posted By on Thu, Apr 12, 2007 at 9:03 PM

The Democrat-Gazette has run a couple of shorter versions of this story this week, but if you have time, you should read the NY Times' full report on the extent of voter fraud found by the Republican Justice Department in a five-year pursuit of the myth of widespread vote fraud and conspiracy to steal elections. The scant handful of cases they've prosecuted (an average of two per state in this span) -- some for sheer ignorance of rules -- often shock the conscience. This is the Karl Rove obsession, of course. Unhappy with five years of this snipe hunt, he deployed a new platoon of willing acolytes, such as his boy Tim Griffin in Arkanas, ready to prosecute no matter how insignificant the violation. If the prosecutions scare some Democrats out of voting, so much the better.
